"Taking a patient’s comfort and quality of life into consideration is of the utmost importance to me. I educate my patients about the process of diagnosis and treatment and how to best manage their conditions effectively, both initially and on an ongoing basis."
Since 1999, Dr. Jayant Phadke has been the Chief of the Neurology Department at the Saint Vincent Hospital location of Saint Vincent Medical Group at Worcester Medical Center. He is also the Director of the Neurophysiology Lab, as well as the Central New England Sleep Disorder Center at Saint Vincent’s, positions he has held since 1997. As a neurologist and sleep specialist, Dr. Phadke provides expert care to treat diseases and disorders related to the nervous system, as well as sleep disorders, frequently working with patients experiencing medical issues related to the brain and spine.
Patients come to Dr. Phadke with medical conditions ranging from sleep apnea, Narcolepsy leading to excessive sleepiness, and seizures or fainting leading to impairment of consciousness, to those affecting mobility and balance such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and disorders of the spine. “Conditions affecting the brain can generate a great deal of fear and anxiety, but talking with patients and listening carefully to their concerns can ease their fears.”
Disease management is just one component of improving a patient’s health, says Dr. Phadke. In treating patients for their neurological disorders, he also works with patients in facilitating significant lifestyle choices that will improve overall health and quality of life. “In addition to treating neurological conditions, I also help my patients manage issues affecting long-term health by encouraging them to follow a healthy lifestyle that will facilitate overall well-being.”
